Looking for a Trainee Maker

I have recently added a new page to the website for anyone who may be interested in joining the workshop as a trainee furniture maker.

In the past, I have found that bringing in makers at the beginning of their careers can work really well when the fit is right. It gives us the chance to establish expectations and ways of working gradually, while increasing the complexity of what they take on over time. This kind of progression can help someone develop the particular skills and approach needed for the furniture we make and the way we work.

I would like to find someone with practical aptitude, a very good eye, patience, care and a temperament suited to making furniture to a very high standard in a commercial workshop. The intention is for this to become a long-term role, with their skills and responsibilities developing over time. I am looking for someone who wants to commit to that process and establish themselves within the workshop, rather than someone looking for a short-term role.

For now, I am simply interested in hearing from people who think this might suit them. I would like to know a little about their background, what they have been making, the kind of work they are interested in and what is important to them in their practice. Technical experience is useful, but at this stage the aim is mainly to start a conversation and get a sense of whether there could be a good fit.

The role would be paid, with the starting wage reflecting the person’s existing experience and ability, and increasing as their skills, responsibilities and contribution within the workshop develop.

There is no specific deadline or start date. I am happy to wait until the right person comes along.
