Hensby designs and makes bespoke furniture in London for private clients and interior designers. Our work brings together the character of timber, considered proportions and meticulous attention to detail.
We develop one-off commissions alongside our own designs. A commission can begin with a new brief or an existing piece, developed in conversation with the client to suit its setting and use.
Curved Settee - developed in response to the architectural features of an entrance hall, its curved form holds two individually carved seats facing different views through the space.
Coffee Table - London plane grown in the capital gives this table its remarkable figure. Its bold, confident form is led by the unique and dramatic character of a tree.
Carved Sideboard - carved by hand to create a complex, textured façade. Concealed doors and discreet hardware keep the focus on the character imparted by the carving.
Our work
Founded by furniture maker Matthew Hensby, the workshop was established with a belief that traditional craftsmanship can hold a lasting place within contemporary design.
Our furniture is handmade using time-honoured principles, with an emphasis on refinement and meticulous attention to detail. We believe that furniture sincerely made by hand carries a warmth and humanity that cannot be matched by machine-made objects.
Commissioning a piece
A commission can begin with a particular need, an idea or a piece from our existing work. We work closely with private clients and interior designers to develop furniture suited to its setting and use, considering proportions, materials and details together.
